TOSSED & FOUND
The Tossed & Found traveling art show was presented by Outside In, a social service agency in Portland, OR.agency in Portland, OR. Organizer Taylor Stevenson from Outside In says, “...reuse art speaks to the problems of our disposable, consumer culture. But I want reuse art to address not just our treatment of garbage and materials but our treatment of other people. Humans can be rejected, ignored and ‘tossed’ in the same way that garbage is. Furthermore, many people live on the streets with our garbage.”
The show is a materialization of the “fourth R”: Rethink. Rethink what we buy, use, and throw away; rethink our attitudes about what-or who-is valuable; rethink how we want to leave our mark on the planet.
This was the first publicized event to happen at BRING's Planet Improvement Center which opened on June 1st, 2007. The Tossed & Found show exemplifies the site's mission to provide the community with fun, new educational opportunities and showcase reuse at its finest.
